What Is In-Home Care?

• Companionship: Your dad has an aide with him to play games, work on his favorite hobby, go for walks around the neighborhood, sit with him while he eats, and enjoy talking to.
• Personal Care: Your dad’s caregiver helps with showers, nail care, haircare, shaving, oral care, toileting, skin care, and other routines for grooming and hygiene.
• Meals: His caregiver helps him plan a weekly menu and cook the meals or prepares snacks when your dad is ready to eat.
• Medication Reminders: If your dad often forgets to take his pills, his caregiver can remind him and make sure they’re taken with a meal, glass of water, or empty stomach.
• Scheduling and Organization: Your dad has a hard time making appointments, especially if the practice uses online or automated phone scheduling. His caregiver is there to help out, and can also help him organize his calendar, mail, and household papers to make sure everything is where he expects it to be.
• Transportation: Finally, your dad’s caregiver is there to drive him to stores, area businesses, senior centers and community centers for social events, and appointments with his barber, dentist, or any medical providers.
